When Paths Cross

When Paths Cross

Some encounters stay with you long after they happen.

Earlier this year, we were in Bangkok for our first overseas pop-up with SELF DEC. Among the many warm conversations we had, one moment stood out - meeting the founders of Muunsan. What started as a simple hello became something more: an exchange of ideas, stories, and a shared reverence for craft.

As someone who deeply values design with soul, I felt an immediate connection with what they were building. Muunsan wasn’t just making bags. They were creating something tender and deeply felt, rooted in community, culture, and care. Their pieces spoke in quiet tones, but carried a message that felt bold in the right ways.

We knew that we wanted to create something together.

Now, months later, we’re proud to welcome Muunsan to Singapore for the very first time, with a curated selection of bags, including an exclusive colourway made just for us.

Each bag is hand-looped by artisans in Thailand, using eco-friendly paracord. The process is slow and intentional, just the way it should be. It’s a return to working with hands. A quiet celebration of craftsmanship that doesn’t chase trends, but endures. For this collaboration, Muunsan created a special shade in their best selling Duo Racket Tote - a warm, earthy tone we came to call Clay Ember. Available only at Commune Wear, it joins the core colourways of Brown Sugar, Terranium, and Oat Field.

We’re also bringing in a small number of the Twin Tote 02, another signature shape we love for its structure and softness. We hope you’ll enjoy this collection, not just for how it looks, but for what it carries: stories, tradition, and a quiet reminder that slower can be better.

We also spoke with the founders of Muunsan to learn more about their story, how it all began, what they stand for, and the thoughtful process behind each bag.

What inspired you to start the brand?

S: I’m drawn to unique products that align with my lifestyle, a simple and minimal approach to consumption. That’s why our bags are made from one primary material and crafted solely by the hands of our artisans.

What core values define your brand?

S: Crafted from meaning, not trends.

MUUNSAN values slow culture, a soft voice, and refined craft. Whether expressed in product, words, or visuals.

There’s no need to shout. Beauty is in the resonance.

How would you describe your brand’s style in three words?

S: Slow. Sincere. Sophisticated.

Where are your bags made and who makes them?

S: Our bags are handcrafted in Bangkok and the countryside of Thailand. Muunsan provides them with fair wages and safe working conditions to support their craft and livelihood.

Who do you design for? Is there a specific lifestyle or person in mind?

S: Our muse is a minimal woman who values simplicity but pays attention to the details. She seeks keepsakes, is comfortable in her own skin, doesn’t chase trends, and knows exactly what she likes. She appreciates quiet beauty, intentional design, and lasting craft.

How long does it take to make ONE bag?

S: Each Small Racket Tote takes approximately 60 to 75 minutes to make by hand, crafted by a single artisan. Large size, Duo Racket Tote takes about 120 - 150 mins depend on each crafter.

What is the material used in Muunsan bags?

S: Muunsan uses a high-quality, eco-friendly paracord that is soft, durable, and made to last. It’s lightweight, flexible, and easy to care for — and because it's crafted to order, nothing goes to waste.

Are these bags suitable for everyday wear?

S: Absolutely. They’re designed to be functional and versatile. Lightweight enough for daily errands, and distinctive enough to elevate any outfit.

Will the bag stretch over time?

S: The paracord holds its shape well with use. While there might be slight softening, the structure is designed to remain intact and beautifully sculpted.

Are the straps comfortable on the shoulder?

S: Yes, the paracord is soft and flexible, so the straps sit comfortably even when the bag is full. If you prefer padding, a scarf wrap around the handle adds both cushion and flair.

Thank you for being here, and for letting us share what we love.
